TL Dallas has been named as a finalist in the workplace wellbeing category of the Excellence in HR Awards, Yorkshire.
Head of people, Lizzy Tyler said: “At the heart of our company culture lies an unwavering commitment to wellbeing, which fuels our collective success as we create an environment where every team member thrives.
“Here at TL Dallas, we take great pride in our proactive approach to wellbeing, where it is woven into the fabric of our DNA, shaping every aspect of our company culture and operations. We believe wellbeing is a priority 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and that it should be at the heart of all we do.
“We are also hugely proud of our partnerships with mental health charities, Bradford & Craven District MIND and the Charlie Waller Trust (CWT).”
TL Dallas was founded over 100 years ago in 1919 and provides a full range of commercial and personal independent insurance and advice. A fourth-generation family run business, the firm’s mission is to be a leading, truly independent UK insurance broker, while investing in its people, clients and communities.
Lizzy added: “We partner with two leading mental health charities and ensure that wellbeing is discussed by the leadership team through the creation of wellbeing KPIs. We have also created an employee led wellbeing group, a wellbeing charter, a dedicated employee engagement and wellbeing survey, and our employee newsletter.
“Through our corporate partnering with both CWT and Bradford & Craven District MIND, we have significantly enhanced our efforts to promote wellbeing at TL Dallas, especially by leveraging the ‘five ways to wellbeing’ framework which are Connect, Get Active, Take Notice, Learn and Give.
“We worked closely with CWT to create our dedicated mental health awareness training course, which all our employees have completed, and our management and leadership team attend an extended version – called ‘managing for good mental health’. We are committed to ensuring all new employees have access to this session; even with recent growth and an acquisition, which saw our employee headcount increase by 30% in the first half of 2024, we are on track to retain our 100% completion rate.
“Our partnership with CWT has evolved and in 2023 we launched our mental health first aiders across the group providing a safe and confidential space for employees to discuss their concerns without fear, stigma or judgement.
“We believe that working with CWT and MIND experts provides our company with an excellent opportunity to enhance employees’ knowledge on wellbeing matters and various mental and physical health topics.
“Our TL Dallas charter was created by our employees following our initial roll out of mental health training with CWT, and these are our commitments to each other as colleagues. This is why at TL Dallas, the practice of open conversations and the ‘ask twice’ principle is the cornerstone of every discussion, meeting, or interview, fostering a culture of transparency and genuine care.
“When it comes to being proactive, enhancing employee engagement, and organising meaningful activities, we excel in creating an environment that truly resonates with our team. Our employee led wellbeing group was newly formed in April 2023 and continues to deliver numerous volunteer days, team events, charity events and webinars.”
In 2024 the wellbeing group worked with both CWT and MIND to create an annual plan of wellbeing activities. This has included charity fundraising, including a sponsored bike ride and BBQ as well as a monthly ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’ lunch walking group, to encourage regular physical activity and team connection.
